Question about PhysX 32bit GPU compatibility with 5090
Question about PhysX 32bit GPU compatibility with 5090
This might be related to a driver problem. The Nvidia app could be conflicting with the 3050's function as a dedicated Physx card if it's installed. You might want to install an older driver package from before 2025 to ensure everything works properly on a second card, in case something is being blocked by newer drivers.
what does
gpu-z
say should show that it's installed anyhow.
Guy who got it working
shows he had a sff 3050 in the second dedicated pci-e 16x slot can't see how that is unavailable in your rig and he shows a screenie of nvidia ctrl panel with the 3050 'dedicated to physx'.
In the '
Physx causes issues
' section of the PC Gaming Wiki (at the end of the page) it waffles on about first setting up the 'windowed' fixes, plugging the hdmi into second gpu, starting the game in windowed mode, then hotswapping the hdmi back to the main gpu and setting the game back to full screen, and something nearly unintelligible about hdmi dummy plugs. but that's in the case of if your primary gpu is amd.
However I couldn't get the 'windowed fixes' to work - also a bit hard to decrypt - and that's when I discovered if you use the gplasync version of dxvk in the 'physx causes issues' section - just drop the dx93d.dll and dxgi.dll into the game dir to enable vulkan - it also fixes alt tabbing.
I also don't see how they changed the resolution in game from windowed mode to 4k or whatever they wanted - mirror's edge tweaks sets the configuration file to read only so the game can't alter it. And if you use mirror's edge tweaks you set the rez before launch.
Half the wiki might just be gobbeldegook for all we know. But nonetheless somebod got it working somehow.
When used together with an RTX 5090, the setup would simply involve installing the RTX 3050 in the second slot and starting the PC. Then choosing the 3050 as a dedicated Physx card in the control panel. If I had an RTX 50 series card, I could have tried several of my older and newer Nvidia cards to check for issues with the latest driver updates from the past two months. There might be problems with the 580.88 driver package when running two different generations of cards on the same system. I might consider replacing one card and testing it alongside my current 30 series card, especially since I'm still using 580.88.
This should be clear, though there might be a problem with the software or my system. Thanks for all the responses, but I'm really struggling to figure out what could be wrong. It's just as frustrating for me to try adding the 3050 as it is to just include the 4090, especially since I only have one GPU to deal with. I'll keep monitoring this issue, but I think there probably isn't a better option for my current setup.
I had mentioned bifurcation earlier, but I think it won’t be a big issue since even with the riser cables, the RTX 3050 is still recognized in Windows as a functional device. The problem seems more likely tied to driver settings, especially how the game or driver identifies which card should handle Physx. The only possibilities I considered were outdated driver versions blocking its use as a secondary card.
I never connected a display cable and didn't think it would count. After finishing with the 4090, I might try again, but it sounds like a pita or worse if it's the driver. I saw something on Reddit about removing it from the driver side—guess what? Don't upgrade your 4090, please!
This could appear as a trivial inquiry, but after selecting the RTX 3050 in the control for dedicated to Physx and clicking apply at the bottom right, you must both check the box and press apply; otherwise, it won't function properly and reverts to the main GPU.
I've attempted to replicate the setup in my rig (5090 + 3050). The 3050 is recognized by the system and can even display video, but I'm having trouble getting PhysX to function. I contacted Nvidia support, who suggested trying an older driver version to identify when the feature was disabled—currently on 581.29.
