Question about PCIE 6+2P connector cable
Question about PCIE 6+2P connector cable
I purchased the RX 7900XTX and initially used a 650w PSU, but later upgraded to an 850w one. The PSU I bought is the Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 V2. Before receiving the GPU, I was told by the PSU instructions that using two 6+2P PCIe cables for a 3 8pin GPU isn't allowed, though they suggested using three separate cables. The instructions didn’t mention providing the cables themselves. I’m unsure what to do now. Should I connect two cables with an extension or buy new ones? Are there any alternatives? Also, can I use my old 6+2P connectors from a previous PSU? Please help me understand this better.
Typically, a single cable and one daisy chained cable work well if they are of good quality, such as 16AWG to the first connector and HCS connectors. The AWG number on the PCIe cable is not what you should focus on. Using a short when operating can damage your expensive GPU, yet you purchased a budget Gold PSU for a high-end GPU—consider returning the PSU and upgrading to a premium ATX3.0 unit.
My system needs only 600w, but I thought the PSU I got was too much. It appeared on the PSU tierlist from Culstist Network, so I assumed it was solid. I didn’t realize there were special PSUs for large GPUs. Thanks for the info.
It's not excessive at all. The essential requirement is just enough.
The RX7900XT needs a PSU with a minimum of 800W.
For the factory overclocked version, 850W is suggested.
Certainly.
Yes, it is clear.
Using two connectors from one cable with one connector from another cable is not recommended.
Modular cables don't work well across different PSU models.
Even if both PSUs come from the same manufacturer, compatibility isn't assured.
Improper cables may harm or destroy your equipment.
