Question about patch panel connections.
Question about patch panel connections.
Hello, I'm facing some issues with setting up a patch panel. It seems the device indicates compatibility with Cat6, but we have Cat8 available. The wiring follows the instructions on the sticker, and the cable itself was functioning before. However, once connected to any port on the panel, it stops working. Both ends use T568B, yet the tester still doesn't register anything. I've rewired several times and even stripped the cable to check the copper, but the problem persists. I've also used different cables that work with the tester.
The only advice I’d give is to verify that each white wire matches the correct color for its corresponding band. Your white wires don’t display the matching color strip, which means your pairs might be swapped somewhere. Every pair should be securely twisted together in the cable and kept with its main color (Blue/White-Blue, Brown/White-Brown, etc).
Yeah thought of that also. I've been very careful about that but if that were the case than the cable tester would at least show the colored wired correctly. There's literally no signal going through.
Did you verify the patch panel using a continuity check? It’s possible the panel is defective.
The cat 8 might be thicker than your patch panel was built for. Review the specifications for both wire and patch panel to confirm compatibility. They could be mismatched. Ensure the wires are fully driven into place. Using a suitable spring-loaded punch down tool will cut them neatly against the terminal block.
It worked well with the punch down tool. Just wish I hadn’t damaged any pins before then.
