Can you increase the ram speed by doubling it (two 8Gb 2400mhz kingston hyperx fury) on an i5-7400 without a dedicated motherboard? You're thinking about getting a new graphics card, like the Asus ROG Strix B250G or MSI Z270 gaming M.2. Since it's quite old, you might need a more basic upgrade. Share your ideas! *TIA 😉*

That is a feature only for Z-series motherboards.
It would be a waste of money to get a Z mobo with the intention of OC'ing the ram, only to put a locked cpu in it.
Makes more sense to get a K cpu and pair it with a non-Z board. At least there, you'll benefit from the higher base and boost clocks of the K processor.
Cpu frequency > memory frequency. [On Intel cpus at least.]
