Question about Macrium Reflect scheduled backup and Windows 10 password issues.
Question about Macrium Reflect scheduled backup and Windows 10 password issues.
Hi,
Some questions about Macrium Reflect v8
In my old PC (Macrium Reflect Home v6)(Windows 10 Home), I create a windows login password then I create a scheduled backup, during the process of creating a scheduled backup I see this [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen that requires [User Name] (note: User Name auto filled in by Macrium) [Password] and I enter my windows login password in the Password box, scheduled backup works successfully. FYI, [Scheduled Tasks User Name] box as seen in
https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/d...an...g+a+backup
In my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8)(Windows 10 Pro), I did not create a windows login password then I created a scheduled backup, during the process of creating a scheduled backup I did not see this [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen, scheduled backup works successfully.
Q1) Now in my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8) I will create a windows login password, how do I ensure that the scheduled backup (that was created during no windows login password) will be able to work successfully after I create a windows login password?
Q2a) Now in my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8) after I create a windows login password, where to find the [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen to input my windows login password into the password box?
Q2b) Now in my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8) after I create a windows login password, do I need to fill in windows login password at [Scheduled Tasks User Name] for the scheduled backup to work correctly?
Q2c) Now in my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8) after I create a windows login password, do I need to delete the scheduled backup and recreate the scheduled backup again?
Q2d) If my new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8) has a windows login password then I create Macrium scheduled backup, during Macrium Reflect Home v8 create scheduled backup process does [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen appear to tell me to input my windows login password?
Q3) Is the purpose of input windows login password into Macrium [Scheduled Tasks User Name] so that the Macrium scheduled backup works successfully even during the PC is at the windows login screen before entering into windows (without entering the windows password manually by myself at the windows login screen)?
Q4) Does Macrium Reflect Home v8 scheduled backup or any feature still require user to enter windows login password into Macrium to work correctly?
Q5) In what situations do I need to enter windows login password at the password box at [Macrium Reflect v8>Other Tasks>Edit Defaults and Settings>Schedule Settings], screenshot
https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/displa...e+Settings
Q6) Does Macrium Reflect v8 require windows login password to work for any Macrium Reflect v8 scheduled backups or Macrium Reflect v8 features?
These is the timeline of what I have done.
My new PC (Macrium Reflect Home v8)(Windows 10 Pro) is switched on everyday 24 hours, at 11pm before I sleep I will lock screen (Windows key and the L key) until 7am next day. PC is untouched from 11pm to 7am.
13 Mar to 16 Mar 9pm no windows login password created in the new PC, brand new PC that does not have any windows login password.
13 Mar 9pm I create an incremental scheduled backup to do incremental backup daily at 4am, during the process of creating the scheduled backup I did not see this [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen so no windows login password input is required in Macrium Reflect v8, this scheduled backup works successfully from 14 Mar to 18 Mar.
14 Mar 4am scheduled backup works successfully
15 Mar 4am scheduled backup works successfully
16 Mar 4am scheduled backup works successfully
16 Mar 9pm I created a windows login password in my new PC. Macrium Reflect v8 software untouched.
17 Mar 4am scheduled backup works successfully
18 Mar 4am scheduled backup works successfully
18 Mar 9am I delete all scheduled task and delete all backup definition files, then redo (redo 13 Mar step) create an incremental scheduled backup to do incremental backup daily at 4am, during the process of creating the scheduled backup I did not see this [Scheduled Tasks User Name] screen so no windows login password input is required in Macrium Reflect v8.
I noticed 18 Mar 9am and 13 Mar steps to create an incremental scheduled backup are exactly the same, so my conclusion is Macrium Reflect v8 does not require windows login password even if a windows login password was created in the PC and Macrium will still be able to create backup successfully when windows is at windows login screen (before entering windows).
It seems like Macrium Reflect v8 does not require windows login password at all, correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks
Are you using Macrium Reflect 8 through a Windows Admin account or a regular Windows user account?
You might find the following Macrium guide useful:
https://updates.macrium.com/help/v5/how_...ackups.htm
According to the page, "You can set up the task to operate under another user, but they need Administrator rights."
In Macrium, while generating an image for another drive, it requests the username and password for that resource. The schedule stores this login information.
I am using a Windows Admin account. I believe the link you shared is for Macrium reflect version 5 because the word "v5" appears on the URL.
My observations are that if the Windows PC generates a Windows login password, Macrium prompts me for a Windows login password (the username is auto-filled by Macrium) when setting up a scheduled incremental backup only on version v6; v8 does not ask for this. I have tried versions v6 and v8.
I understand that from version 7 onwards, Macrium reflect defaults to the SYSTEM account, which means no Windows login password is required.
The only concerns I have are these two points.
Q5) When should I type the Windows login password in that password field at [Macrium Reflect v8>Other Tasks>Edit Defaults and Settings>Schedule Settings], and I need a screenshot?
Q6) Is it necessary to enter a Windows login password for Macrium Reflect v8 scheduled backups or its features?
Perhaps I resolved Q5) by finding the screenshot at the provided link. If the box for using the Windows SYSTEM account is checked, the User Name and Password fields disappear, meaning no login is needed. Conversely, if the box is unchecked, those fields appear, requiring a Windows login. Based on this, I think if I unchecked it would use the Windows Admin account instead.
