Question about incorrect voltages for Corsair RM850x.
Hi, I’m experiencing some problems that seem to occur randomly.
Should I consider replacing the PSU? It might be related to the braided extensions, even though I’ve used them for about two years without this issue before.
I’ve been using the Corsair RM850x and closely monitoring the PSU voltages with HWInfo. I noticed a problem on the 3.3V line, which is leading to errors from the SSD, sudden disconnections lasting about a second, and forced game restarts to restore functionality.
Additionally, there’s noticeable stuttering in the image and sound only when the 3.3V drops to 2.93V; once it reaches 3V or higher, the issue disappears.
I’ve checked the internal cables in the case—my high-quality extensions are always properly seated. The cable extensions themselves are 18AWG, thicker than standard ones (brand: Xigmatek).
The PSU is only two years old, and I don’t use the PC during thunderstorms or extreme weather. It’s plugged directly into the wall outlet.
The SSDs are all functioning correctly; Samsung Magician reports show no errors, and my tests confirm it.
I captured a screenshot while playing a demanding game—this doesn’t happen with lighter games.
The 12V line reaches its minimum at this point, and the 3.3V drops to 2.928V when stuttering begins. It works fine above that threshold.
The 3VCC should be around 3.3 or close to 3.2 at the lowest voltage I’ve seen.
It could be that the PSU is overheating and losing efficiency—temperatures are high sometimes, exceeding 30°C.
Temperatures are normal, but the CPU stays around 65°C, GPU around 67°C, and SSDs are mostly between 55-60°C during gaming.
System specs:
i7 11700K (Arctic LF 240 AIO) + 32GB DDR4 GSKILL + 3080 TBU + 2x Samsung Evo 970 Pro 2TB + 1x Corsair MP510 + Corsair 4000D.
Plus an LED strip and four RGB case fans.
I understand software readings might be off, but these voltage issues align with what I’m seeing.
I need a solution because I’m planning to upgrade to something like the 5080 or 4080—though I’m not sure yet based on current prices.
A possible PSU replacement could be a RM850x Shift or RM750x Shift, at least according to local stores.
Thank you in advance, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
