Question about FB messenger encryption?
Wasn't clear about where to adjust this but I hope someone can clarify it in a logical way. FB added end-to-end encryption to the messenger feature. In the browser settings, it looks like it's disabled and nothing has changed. On my phone, the app required me to set a PIN to keep accessing my messages. It warned me that if I didn't do it, I might lose messages saved on my device. My confusion started because I thought turning off encryption meant no message storage on my phone, which would explain why I could view messages from any browser. Then I noticed that creating the PIN on my mobile caused chat windows in browsers to show security upgrades, but messages were missing and needed syncing. I’m wondering if FB has changed how messages are stored—whether everything is now saved locally and synced properly? Honestly, I don’t need large amounts of encrypted message history on my phone.

Regarding synchronization, it should function as long as it's turned on.
However, messages are kept in the FB account (cloud) instead of on the device. This means you can access them from a PC or vice versa, even if you send a message from your phone.
