I’m trying to figure out how to link your PC to the router using the available cables. You have a crossover cable and a straight-through cable. Would it work to plug the straight-through cable into the router and the crossover cable into the PC? (quick sketch idea)

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem.

The issue arises because modern network hardware includes "auto-sense" ports that render crossover cables largely ineffective. Auto-sense identifies connection needs through various methods: automatic MDI/MDI-X detection for gigabit Ethernet, media sensing in printers to recognize paper dimensions and types, auto negotiation or NWay for adjusting Ethernet settings like line speed on 10/100 cards, and the Medium Dependent Interface (MDI) port for connecting switches or hubs without a crossover cable.
