Question about Corsair RM850e noise issue.
Question about Corsair RM850e noise issue.
I recently purchased one and it was working even when browsing with chrome. A fan or something like a small motor made a sound, similar to a water pump. I sent it back and got a new replacement. Now the noise is constant instead of turning on and off. The reviews mention the HX850 has coil whine too. It seems like a better option since it doesn’t have any fan RPM until it reaches 70°C, which I think is around 70% load. I’m not sure what to replace it with, but I might have to try PSU options until I find one that’s really quiet. Any advice for an 850W PSU would be great.
I’m on a budget of up to $150 and have the following setup:
- Windows 11 Home
- CPU i9 12900K stock
- GPU asus TUF 3080 OC
- RAM Corsair Dominator DDR4 4GB, 2x8GB, 3600Hz
- SSD Samsung 980 Pro 1TB
- WD Blue drive
- WD Black drive
I’m considering the Corsair RM850E PSU.
Do you have any suggestions for an 850W PSU?

PDF summary from Cybenetics on the design document
I'm not sure why this RM850e is turning on and off on my desktop. It should run quietly until 170w. I read that the RTX 3080 uses about 35w and my i9 12900k runs at 12w on the desktop. There are no background programs running, just Logitech, FanControl, Steel Series Sonar Sound Equalizer, and NVIDIA software.
