Hey everyone!
I'm planning to purchase myself a new laptop and I'm considering the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16. I was thinking of getting the 3070ti model with 16GB RAM already built in and adding another 16GB to the second slot, but unfortunately it's not available from any retailer in my country. So I might end up buying this specific configuration:
CPU: INTEL Core i7 12700H
RAM: 40GB 4800MHz PC5-38400 DDR5
SSD: 512GB (+1 free slot)
GPU: nVidia GeForce RTX 3060, 8GB GDDR6 (1425MHz at 100W (1475MHz at 120W with Dynamic Boost))
...
I have a question about the RAM setup, since it's 40GB filled, it seems like it should be 8GB + 32GB, which would mean only 8GB is in dual channel and the remaining 24GB is single channel. Is that a significant performance drop? As a programmer working with SAP and needing a lot of RAM, would any loss affect my work? Or is it worth waiting until next year if this model becomes available in my country?
Also, I plan to add a 1TB SSD in the free slot. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Sadly, these items aren't accessible through any retailer in my country.
Where are you situated?
Checking the SKU details shows that Asus offers the range for the 2022 Zephyrus M16;
ROG Zephyrus M16 (2022) | Gaming Laptops|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global
Lightweight and compact, the 2022 model provides a smooth Windows 11 Pro experience. Whether you're working on content or competing, performance remains consistent thanks to up to a 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900H CPU with liquid metal and an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti GPU featuring MUX Switch.
rog.asus.com
You'll notice the maximum RAM support is either 40GB or 48GB.
The models supporting up to 48GB typically include 16GB of RAM, while those with 40GB come with 8GB.
With 40GB installed, you likely have 8GB in dual-channel mode and the remaining 24GB in single-channel.
Correct, your RAM will operate in Flex Mode depending on the configuration.
If you aim to maximize performance and expand capacity, consider a dual-channel 2x16GB DDR5-4800MHz SO-DIMM package for your laptop. Mixing RAM types may cause instability in your system.
