I noticed Jay examining a motherboard with a Thunderbolt port. It looked interesting to see the connection. I wondered why they needed a DP cable in the dedicated slot instead of using another port on the board. Also, do you think it's possible to connect a monitor to a different DP slot on the GPU?

The concept involves using the Thunderbolt port for your monitor by routing a GPU display output through it. Alternatively, you can connect the monitor directly via DP if it supports that connector. This approach is mainly useful for monitors with only a TB input. https://www.pugetsystems.com/parts/Mothe...WiFi-14173 In short, instead of linking your monitor to DP and then powering its USB/TB ports separately, you can connect everything via one cable.

I understand. Appreciate your reply. I haven't really noticed many monitors with Thunderbolt for display, but I suppose I've never really explored high-end options before.

It doesn't have to be fancy. We use USB-C at work, for instance. I use one cable that connects my monitor to my laptop. It does three things: the monitor powers the laptop via USB-PD, the laptop sends an image through DisplayPort Alt-Mode, and the monitor acts as a hub for multiple USB ports. This setup is similar, though power delivery might not make much sense on a desktop (unless the PC powers the monitor). The main advantage is fewer cables between the monitor and PC, especially if the monitor can also serve as a hub. It could also eliminate the need for an extra power cable for the monitor. Not something I usually worry about at home, though some people do.
