Hi All,
I’m looking for suggestions on a KVM switch suitable for three computers and two to three monitors. I noticed some options on Amazon for two units but plan to add a third later, avoiding extra cables or re-plugging. Do you have any comparison resources for this setup? Thanks.

Begin with a clear outline of the necessary equipment and their connections. Consider the placement of the 3 computers, 2-3 monitors, available ports, plug types, and the corresponding cables. Refer to "KVM switch diagrams" online for visual examples to guide your planning and ensure a coherent overall layout.

I have created a sample diagram.

I believe I will use just two monitors. Most KVM switches are designed for two monitors, and I prefer having four instead of three so I can comfortably use two. All my monitors are HDMI, and some KVM switches have DP ports which can be a bit challenging, but I have HDMI2DP adapters.

Very good. The instructions are quite useful.
Be mindful of the KVM "switching" behavior. Some require manual adjustment, while others will automatically detect changes.
List and identify all cables carefully, noting the type and plug orientation on each end.
Make sure the plug matches the connected device.
It’s helpful to mark which cables you own and which ones you need to buy.
Also consider the power cable connections.
I recommend using an independently powered USB hub.
A thing to remember is that you might end up forming a loop:
Device A → Device B → Device C → Device D → back to Device A.
Loops can cause issues....
Other suggestions, comments, and ideas are welcome.

Is there any benefit to using the detecting KVM switch instead of a manual one? I believe I’m okay with a manual setup. Or is this related to the switch automatically recognizing and handling the right resolution modes? I assume all the plugs are MALE in this case, correct? I think that’s the usual setup—I notice the KVM switch comes with an additional box, which is a USB switch. I’m looking for around six extra MALE to MALE HDMI cables and eight MALE to MALE USB-C cables.

I favor manual settings. "Automatic" can sometimes feel overly automatic... it adds unnecessary complexity. Regarding plugs and gender, a worry is KVM switches using exclusive ports or cables just to boost sales. Always verify the RMA guidelines when buying cables, regardless of whether they're proprietary or not. USB switch/hub: independently powered again.
