Question 7800x3d cb r23 results, temperatures, frequency - is everything alright?
Hi
During the past two days I've been using a 7800x3d with Gigabyte b650 gaming x v2 and 32 GB RAM at 6000 MHz with EXPO turned on. The cooling setup includes Fortis 5, SPC Supremo 550w power supply, and an RTX 4070. I knew the cooling might not be sufficient, so I started undervolting by lowering the voltage from 1.25 to 1.15 without PBO. This resulted in a CB R23 score of 18550 points, a maximum temperature of 85°C, and an effective clock speed of 4890MHz. Adding CO -20 or -25 didn't significantly improve the situation—scores dropped to 18470 points, clock at 4850MHz, temperature 84.5°C. Adding a power limit of 80w, 85w, or setting a temperature cap at 85°C didn't make much difference. It turned out that adjusting the voltage versus using PBO produced only minor variations in scores and temperatures, and Fortis is performing well. For gaming, I currently run Avowed, and during play the clocks fluctuate around 5GHz with temperatures between 65-75°C.
My question remains: given all these components, especially the average cooler, are these results acceptable? Is there a way to reduce temperatures without sacrificing performance using PBO? Or perhaps it’s better to leave things as they are?
Simply keep it where it is, everything is okay. Have fun with the game!
how many points would you earn without the tuning you created?
it looks good though

I haven't tried it with stock settings yet due to concerns about excessive heat
😀
I'll review this this afternoon and update you
Don't worry about high temperatures, the CPU is constructed from silicon, not protein. An 85-degree temperature is acceptable for it, just like a 37-degree temperature is fine for humans.
I performed the test using default settings. Only EXPO enabled. The result in CB R23 is 17967, max temp 85.5C. Effective core clocks 4,906hz max. I also performed tests with various settings, e.g.:
-VSoc 1.15
-CO -25
-Thermal limit 80C + PPT 75w
-PPT 85W + CO -25
- VSoc 1.15 + CO -25
Interestingly, in each of these cases the CB R23 result oscillated between 18510-18644 Temperature 84-85C (Except thermal limit setting, then max temp 81C), Effective Core Clocks 4,860-4,922mhz max. The highest score 18644 i achieve with VSoc 1.15+ CO -25 with 4,922 mhz and 85C.As you can see in my case the differences between the settings are minimal and the difference between stock and pbo is also small. The 7800x3d seems to work very well straight out of the box. The temperature is also a surprise. I knew that x3D processors are warm. I was convinced that with a cooler like Fortis 5 in CB R23 I would see temperatures well above 90C. These 85C max are a pleasant surprise, and in games it is known that there will be 15C less. To all those who want or have just bought a 7800x3d and for whom gaming performance is important, not the numbers in Cinebench: do not waste time on BIOS settings and benchmarks. Alternatively, set the BIOS CO to -20 or -25 and VSoc to 1.15 and that's it I'm glad that instead of spending my free time in the next few days on settings and benchmarks, I will be able to simply enjoy using the improved computer. It's true that I'm playing Avowed now and this game has bad optimization and stutter occurs even on the best hardware, but in average FPS and 1% low there is a big difference compared to Ryzen 5600.
