I used systemctl to stop and start it, but in Virt-Manager nothing showed up and there are no virtual machines present.

It seems your home directory is set to home/username nit, but you're not sure why. Linux clarified that. Everything functions properly now.

I had to modify the XML file for the VM in the OSX-KVM directory, adding the right paths. Then I copied it using the scp command to etc/libvirt/qemu. After that, I opened a terminal in that folder and ran the “virsh define filename.xml” command with whatever your XML file name is. Restarting libvirtd and virtlog services with the systemctl restart commands got everything working. Your VM is now visible in the virt-manager.
