Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 upgraded to 3.07 GHz with power-saving settings turned off in BIOS. NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT OC'ed with 3 GB DDR2, performance fluctuates a lot. Between 60-200 FPS drops significantly during intense moments like smoke, flashbangs, or firefights. Smoother performance observed in darker areas such as tunnels in Dust 2 or when viewing the ground. FPS decreases and stutters during crowded matches, flashbangs, or smoke. Is the issue with the CPU or GPU? I've seen YouTube clips showing Q6600s running CS:GO without problems.

It supports both GPU and CPU, meeting the basic needs for CS:GO. Performance varies across users, with many experiencing inconsistent FPS. The Q6600 often faces issues running CS:GO smoothly, dropping to around 100 FPS.

The GPU is the main issue affecting your performance, leading to FPS drops in smokes. I have a comparable CPU from the same time period and I'm experiencing 140-280 FPS.

Really, I should have picked a better GPU. I was reaching out to the forum last week about planning upgrades for my PC for CS:GO. Most people suggested upgrading the CPU first. My old CPU was a C2D E7400. I looked for the best used LGA 775 CPUs available. These are getting harder to find these days. Fortunately, I found a powerful Q9550 and swapped it in. Performance stayed the same, but I managed to hit around 200 FPS and reduced stuttering. A lot of folks say CS:GO is CPU-intensive, but the lag comes from the CPU, not the graphics. That’s not what I experienced.

CSGO puts a lot of demand on your CPU, but upgrading to a stronger GPU can significantly boost your FPS. What’s your budget?
