Q9300 Overclocking on Locked Motherboard?
Q9300 Overclocking on Locked Motherboard?
Hi there guys,
As mentioned in the title, I own a Q9300 in a Dell Vostro 220 with a locked motherboard. I was wondering if it would be possible to overclock the chip, such as through pad modding. I've seen guides for the Q6600, but not for the Q9300.
I'm curious if this is feasible on a Q9300 and since I only have one, I don't want to risk damaging it.
I also have a D92 cooler, so temperature issues aren't a concern.
Thank you very much!
The pad method doesn't allow precise adjustments. The problem isn't with the CPU, but with the motherboards. Dell's are recognized for securing their boards tightly.
The Q9300 supports a 1333Mhz FSB, which is the maximum the board can handle. Changing it to a 1600Mhz FSB would exceed the board's capabilities and cause failure. Therefore, using the pad method won't work in this case.
If you wish to overclock, you'll need to find another board that matches the specifications.

To make changes, you'll need a different board.
