I used to own a powerful i5 2500k with 16GB RAM and an SSD, but it often felt slow (and would crash) when many tabs were open or heavy apps ran at once. That’s why I switched back to IE and never looked back. IE has definitely improved a lot, and I think it works better than Chrome unless you rely heavily on plugins (which I don’t).

It's possible you might have a virus. I've noticed Chrome becomes slower after a while without a virus running.

Verify which tasks are consuming CPU power. It shouldn’t be operating at full capacity when only handling file transfers.
