Board includes two CPU fan connectors and four system fan connectors. These designs aim for compatibility with powerful fans that move air in both directions—forward and backward—through the CPU radiators and across RAM sticks. Typically, there are no fans directly mounted on top of the actual heatsink over the CPU. The heatsink usually features a core or heatpipes with many fins on the top, allowing air to pass through for cooling. Fans serve dual roles, also helping to cool the RAM and the VRM area between the CPU sockets.
