You can see from the link provided that Steam now allows selling and purchasing mods, beginning with Skyrim. I personally don’t like turning fan creations into commercial products. Still, some could benefit from it. There’s always a chance to request a refund. But what if a mod causes issues after the initial 24 hours? That’s definitely a concern. What if an update breaks a mod? Those situations are hard to predict. I’ve always appreciated how a passionate community helps extend a game’s life without cost. There are games I buy on purpose because they support mods and offer more free content. A donation system directed straight to the developers’ Steam wallets would probably have been more effective.

DarkOne shares his initial impressions of the Nexus forum. He believes much of what’s posted is misleading, calling the 75% completion rate fake. He suggests seeking refunds for poorly written code and encourages constructive feedback from users. He notes that only a small number of projects are truly valuable, while most are not, and expresses skepticism about its potential impact on the community. He remains hopeful but cautious about its future direction.

I’m fine with a developer earning for their efforts, but the 25/75 split feels unfair. Only a dedicated modder would choose Nexus and create a donation page. If you wish to back modders, please contribute! That way they receive the full $1 instead of just 25 cents.
