Purchasing a refurbished 10900K with a copper heat spreader
The listing describes a used 10900K with delidded components, a copper heat spreader replacement, and liquid metal integration. There are potential concerns about its condition and the added materials before purchase.
Yes, any time you buy something used there is a risk. Doubly true for modded items.
I wouldn't purchase a refurbished CPU without a lid. Liquid metal poses a risk of damaging your CPU if used improperly. Unless it's extremely inexpensive, better to avoid it.
The advice in the car community is clear: avoid buying someone else's project unless it comes from a friend or family member. Stick to what you know and trust. Only consider modded parts if you're certain the seller will communicate. But if a great deal exists, it's worth taking the risk.
Consider a “not trusted” vote as well. Even a small contamination during delidding makes it unacceptable. Other concerns exist with the liquid metal, but the fact that it’s delidded is sufficient for me.
It isn’t significantly more affordable than a brand new 10850K, so I’ll skip it.
