Purchasing a Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi with Ryzen 9 3900X
I was researching the X470 board for a Ryzen 9 system. I thought I could skip the PCI-E Gen 4 feature on the X570 and just grab an X470. I learned you need to flash the BIOS on the Aorus Gaming 5 board to support Ryzen 3000 CPUs. That makes sense, but the support page lists many prerequisites, like updating AMD chipset drivers in Windows 10. From what I understand, these steps must be done before flashing the F40 BIOS. Since my CPU isn’t supported yet, how do I handle those requirements? I’m hoping someone who built a system from scratch with a new X470 and Ryzen 3000 can share their experience.
Around $200 here in the Philippines, my X570 options included the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite and Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus WIFI (or Prime-P for non-pro). I found a shop with X470 boards and X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WIFI models, while the others were pricier. The X470 Gaming 5 seems to offer a stronger VRM setup compared to the X570 boards I mentioned, so I’m leaning toward it. If you have any budget-friendly X470 boards with simple BIOS flash steps, let me know and I can look into those too.
The Gaming 7 performs well, while the Gaming 5 represents a significant drop in quality compared to the 7. The X570 Aorus offers a much improved VRM setup than the Gaming 5, making it a solid upgrade despite being a step back.
I’d purchase an MSI X570-A PRO, it’s a solid 200 board. Note: Asus ROG STRIX B450-F would be a better choice.
