I bought a TP-Link AC1900 from Amazon yesterday. When I connected it and set up the router, it claimed it was a TP-Link AX3000. I noticed the default password didn’t match and it didn’t prompt for a new one, so I had to reset everything to factory settings. The device was in the right box but looked different—no seal, but the plastic casing was taped. The seller was Amazon from Amazon Warehouse, marked as "New." I wondered if someone had returned their old unit for a better model, or if this was a common issue. Was I being too careful? Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

Based on what I’ve seen, the AC1900 (Archer C9) is nearing the end of its life, while the AX3000 (Archer AX50) offers much better performance. You might decide to retain the AX3000, but be aware that warranty claims could become difficult if it isn’t listed on your invoice. Ultimately, it’s your decision—keep it and accept the associated risk, or return it as incorrect and request a replacement.
