Purchased this RAM during a big discount, and once I paid, I saw the Amazon listing says it's for Intel. Will that affect compatibility with my setup or stop me from using Expo?
The XMP/EXPO feature isn't the main issue; it's the 6400 speed setting. Enabling XMP as usual will probably push you past the 1:1 threshold, reducing performance. I'd set XMP first and then manually lower the clock speed to 6000. The bigger concern is detecting if it drops you out of 1:1. You can send a screenshot from ZenTimings for us to review.
If you tried this configuration, you might have felt a bit overwhelmed initially. The part you linked looks like a full Intel setup, but whether it fits your needs depends on what you're aiming for. It could be more powerful than you think, or it might feel excessive if you're just starting out. Don’t worry—everyone learns at their own pace!
Keep your PC unchanged just to boost the RAM speed—it doesn’t really matter.
The setup lacks Intel and AMD RAM, only having what we'll refer to as "speed presets." Each kit offers different options—some support EXPO, others XMP, and some combine both. Your AMD system handles both EXPO and XMP without trouble, which is fine. That’s not a problem as mentioned earlier. We need to move beyond this limitation. For beginners, turning on XMP might work just enough; you won’t notice much difference. But if you want to dive deeper, the basic kit may be too fast for Ryzen when set up perfectly by simply enabling the speed preset. You can adjust it yourself, but there are advanced tweaks that may also activate automatically, which aren't always optimal. Most people should aim for a 6000 rating as a good starting point. Your current kit can also be manually adjusted to "ideal" settings, though this requires some familiarity with RAM and BIOS configurations—something you might not be comfortable with if you're new.
MB will support both XMP and EXPO settings. I have two AM5 boards running Intel RAM, and 6000/CL30 offers the best balance of performance and compatibility. For maximum control, you can adjust the speed manually—though this can be inconvenient due to the many sub-timings involved. Upgrading BIOS will likely require reconfiguring it again.
