the motherboard for the asus m5a97 is fully updated, not the rev2.0 bios.
i’m seeing wrong temperatures, core temps, hwmonitor, and speed fan readings—10c when idle and 35c under load during intel burn test.
my cooler is a zalman 9900.
what’s happening? the board shows 30c, which seems accurate.

I recommend attempting a CMOS reset and checking its impact. The optimal method is to shut down the PC and disconnect it from power, then remove the lithium battery from the motherboard and let it sit for a short time. After that, reinstall the battery and restart your system. If you're using the latest BIOS version, this should resolve the problem. You might also consider installing AMD Overdrive to verify the temperatures being displayed, as some hardware monitoring tools can give inaccurate readings for FX processors. AMD Overdrive is the only one that provides accurate temperature data.

AMD FX 8 core processors require an 8+2 power phase to function correctly...

Yes, those temperatures don't seem correct, you wouldn't achieve them even with water cooling. Have you made sure your bios is up to date? The asus website lists around 15 updates for your model.

I'm currently using BIOS version 1605, which I think is the most recent.

I recommend attempting a CMOS reset and checking for improvements. The most effective method is to turn off the PC and unplug it, then remove the lithium battery from the motherboard and let it sit for a short time. After that, replace the battery and restart your system. If you're using the latest BIOS version, this should resolve the problem. You might also consider installing AMD Overdrive to monitor temperatures accurately, as some hardware tools can display false readings for FX processors. AMD Overdrive is the only one that provides genuine temperature data. Use it to keep an eye on your system rather than trying to overclock.

AMD FX 8 core chips require an 8+2 power phase to function correctly. Your motherboard may have 4+2 or 6+2 phases (for a M5A97 EVO model). It's unlikely you can achieve significant overclocking on a board lacking the 8+2 phase, and even at the standard settings, you might encounter difficulties.

I've been reading a lot, but most software can't read the chip until around 40 degrees. With my overclock to 4.4ghz at 1.45vcore stable, the CPU runs at 50c under load and 60c when the socket is loaded. I also have a fan on my VRM heatsink.
