You can find a setting to power down unused HDDs, though I haven't tried searching for it myself. Try looking up the option online.
I still need it because I require storage for games and other things. It’s hard to understand why it makes such loud noises. People with the same HDD as me have quieter systems (it’s definitely mine, and I’ve been working on it). There are no bad sectors, so the HDD is in good shape. Probably it’ll stay a mystery.
The drawback is the time constraint for returning the item. While it remains in storage, it might not be in good condition. Once ready to use, you'll need to submit a warranty claim, which could take several months before a replacement arrives. It's wise to test electronics right away upon receipt.
I intend to reset my laptop to factory settings, then upgrade to a fresh Windows 10 installation. After that, I’ll clone the newly cleaned Windows 10 drive onto an SSD and replace the old HDD. Since this is my first time doing it, I’m open to any suggestions or issues you might have.
Use migration tools to transfer your setup to the SSD. Once version 10 arrives, format it correctly and install it. Are you concerned about running two new installations on the SSD at once? That’s unclear to me.
