PSU recommendation for nzxt h1 v1 - ASUS ROG Loki 850w or similar
I've been using the 650w PSU that came with the tower, but it wasn't sufficient for running a 13600k and a 4070 super (the machine kept freezing under heavy load). Now I'm considering purchasing a new one. NZXT h1 v1 needs a SFX-L, but by creating a custom bracket it can handle standard SFX. I've searched online and on the forum without much success (and the PSU guide on the website).
I've checked the Lian Li 850w SP850 or Thermaltake Thoughpower SFX 850w, but they're priced similarly to the ASUS ROG Loki 850w, which is a premium model. Should I opt for the 20$ extra to buy an ASUS ROG Loki 1000w instead, just in case we need more power later? I've been thinking about not supporting ASUS after the Gamers Nexus post, but I already own an ASUS ROG b750-i, so it would be a good match. Also, it seems like a better fit for the case since using a direct Nvidia cable from the PSU instead of a split cable is more appealing.
There are many suggestions about the Lian LI SP850, but I'm unsure if they were based on price or just quality. Anyone have experience with these PSUs?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! I own the SP850 and had to set up around a Fractal-Design Node 202. It might be better to choose other units for this purpose. Also, be careful with the PCIe riser cable—it's known to catch fire.
I've replaced the riser cable with their new PCIE 3.0 (sorry for the inconvenience), which should resolve the issue 😊. The SP850 seems like solid technology. Would an 850W power supply provide sufficient capacity if I upgrade to a larger or newer GPU in five years? And how effective would the cooling and noise management be in a compact case during heavy usage?
It is. And it matches the price of Lian Li and ASUS. Should I pay the extra 20 dollars for the SF1000 or is that unnecessary? (Note: I can actually find it at nearly the same cost. Any drawbacks from choosing the larger 1000W model?)
I discovered the Lian Li is unavailable at most stores and won't be back in a month or two 😬. People seem to use softer language when comparing SF750 to SP750, but I think the SP850 will definitely outperform its smaller counterpart.
Corsair SF-L units stand out as the top SFX(-L) options.
