PSU for mITX mobo/case
PSU for mITX mobo/case
Hello, I'm thinking about creating a new build and this time I'm considering an m-ITX setup. I'm wondering if I can reuse my old PSU or if I'll have to get a new one. Thanks in advance!
it depends on the specific situation, so choose accordingly.
some devices fit standard ATX power supplies, while others require compact SFX models.
Thanks man! So there's no throwing yet, I will check it out, I thought that m-itx need some special PSUs only. Thank you
Have a nice day
No problem. I've built a few mini builds and only 1 required a sfx PSU.
Unless you go for super small case you'll likely be able to use the normal PSU
it is an old model yet it remains a solid quality unit for its era. it could last indefinitely or it could fail soon. using such hardware comes with a risk. i have similar older units working well in my systems, but they are not designed for high-performance gaming setups—they suit browsing, streaming, or office tasks. the decision is yours, but most recommend upgrading to a new system. i also think it would be wise to consider it for a new gaming rig just to be safe.
Hey there! I really value your expertise.
I purchased that item a long time ago; I haven’t played much on it (just a few games here and there). It wasn’t too stressful, though—sometimes I thought it was overkill to buy that PSU. I had plans to play more, but recent games have been pretty uninteresting, and most of them didn’t live up to expectations, even though I hope things will improve soon.
I never thought about the "what if the PSU fails" scenario. Could a sudden failure harm other parts? What would happen if it stopped working, or am I missing something important? Please let me know, as I appreciate your advice beforehand. Thanks a lot!
the psu comes with several built-in safeguards. if it encounters a problem, it’s unlikely to cause any damage. instead, it would simply power down and not attempt to restart. newer psus often include updated protections, which is one of the main reasons for upgrading. i’ve observed high-quality psus functioning properly, while some cheaper models have failed and even caused fires by damaging compartments. I’ve also noticed the opposite situation. ... at moderate loads, the psu would shut itself off without restarting, preventing any further damage. however, there’s always a chance it could behave more erratically and lose something.
