I am considering purchasing a PS2 I found that claimed to be functioning properly, but it had a minor issue: when the disk drive was ejected, it produced a rattling sound. Should I buy it despite that? Or is it just a small problem? I recently bought a PS2 fat from my local market for £10. It powers on and loads disks, but I don’t receive a signal. I’m using an HDMI to PS2 adapter. The monitor only displays the message *Not Optimum Recommend 1920 x 1080 HDMI*, and it only appears when a disk is in the drive. I don’t have a controller, but I know a PS3 is available and I tried using it, though no lights came on. I was hoping this PS2 would work—it’s in very good condition, and the only dust visible is on the fan. I can’t see any scratches.

What HDMI adapter were you using? The problem seems to be that it doesn't scale to 1080. If your TV has a setting for 1080i or 720p, try that instead. A better option would be a TV with an AV input. The PS2 doesn't support USB controllers, so you need to find a PS2 controller or an adapter.

the ps2 to hdmi conversions often face issues and resemble the monitor or tv you're using, which doesn't support the adapter's res. it's likely you need to locate an adapter that matches your device and get a screen that fits it.

I am surprised to discover such an old item that doesn't immediately respond... I suppose it might be possible because there is no visible output.

The PS2 lacks a red ring. It only has a power LED, and it functions or not accordingly.

RRoD was an unsuccessful project where the output displayed a red screen or ring, occasionally accompanied by a failure message.

The RRoD refers to a particular fault type unique to the Xbox 360, not a general description of a broken console.

This PS2 to HDMI converter adapter is a PS2 to HDMI video converter with a 3.5mm audio cable for HDTV. It connects to an AV to HDMI monitor and supports all PlayStation 2 display modes. I don’t have a TV, but I own my own one. I’m planning to get a PS2 controller, though the PS3 controller should work with its USB port.

I was part of the process the converter adapter used with all models.
The PS2 to HDMI converter allows connecting your PS2 game console to a high-resolution TV or HDMI monitor, enabling simultaneous audio and video output, and supports all PS2 display modes 480i/576i/480.
