Hello everyone, I’m here hoping to connect with others who share similar interests and needs. This is my first time joining a forum, so I’m sure this is the right place and I hope it’s the best way to proceed. The “Higher End” might be misleading, but I’ve been searching everywhere for a fix to my issue, so I’m here hoping for some help.

I mostly play games on a 4090/i9-13900KF setup, but I’m using an LG C3 65. I usually sit on the couch with a controller, which feels a bit old-fashioned. Recently, I’ve been trying to capture my gameplay—specifically examples like the AI Limit Demo and The First Berserker Khazan Demo. I record at 4K with 120fps and HDR. My setup includes an Elgato 4K X capture card.

I used a HDMI 2.1 cable from my 4090 to a Daoistek splitter, then another HDMI 2.1 link to both the LG C3 and the Elgato card. The Elgato software is up-to-date, and I’ve installed OBS. From what I learned, I followed those steps, but I’m still facing constant stuttering during recording.

The 4K X claims support up to 4K at 120fps in SDR, yet I’m trying 4K at 60fps while the PC streams and the TV shows 120fps with HDR. Even though HDR is on, it seems to record in lower resolution. I’ve tried boosting the CBR to 64,000kbps, but nothing changed.

I’ve checked forums, specs, YouTube, Reddit—no clear answers. I’m frustrated because I’ve already spent a lot of time searching and trying different solutions. The cables work perfectly, and the video and audio quality are solid. Still, the stuttering ruins my experience.

If anyone has similar problems, please help. I’m not tech-savvy enough to fix this on my own, so your patience would mean a lot. Thanks for any advice or support you can offer.

I also test at 4K HDR on an LG C2 with a 4090 and capture gameplay. I began going through all this and realized it seemed overly complicated. I'm encountering mentions of adapters, capture cards, CBR encoding, and H264—I’m not sure why all these details matter. Right now I record directly on the GPU. I use CQP 20, which works for me, and AV1 is preferred over CBR, especially for streaming. OBS forums suggest recording in HDR requires adjustments: peak levels should match your display’s peak (around 800 for a C3), and sample output on YouTube after processing is important. I think simplifying the setup would help; using capture cards isn’t necessary, particularly with adapters for HDR and VRR support.

The only thing I noticed was the multipass mode. Not sure if switching to quarter resolution would improve efficiency when it can’t match 4K60 performance, or if the problem lies elsewhere. Another option worth testing could be using H265/HVEC instead of H264.

I understand your feedback, I used OBS to record my screen without a dedicated card and assumed there was a resolution limit. I captured Dark Souls Archthrones in this setup, but the videos remain at 1080p 60hz. While they’re fine, I’m aiming for higher quality—ideally 4k at 120hz with HDR. I’d like to capture 4k 60fps natively if possible. I just noticed that might be the screenshot you shared. Please let me know if this is correct. Thank you for your input, I’m happy to clarify.

Thanks, I'll try H265/HVEC since I haven't used it before. The references I got at first suggested H264 for Nvidia, but I'll check and report back. Appreciate the help!

You can record in 4K120, though it wouldn’t make sense unless you’re aiming for extremely long pacing.

Nvidia accepts H264, H265 and AV1 formats. H264 offers the largest file sizes, while AV1 provides the smallest files without compromising quality. Any code labeled NVENC utilizes specialized Nvidia hardware for encoding. It’s recommended to switch to CQP rather than CBR.

I’m planning to test your full setup and observe the results. I’m really looking forward to 4k 60—it’ll definitely fit on the Tube. I haven’t watched the video yet; it reminds me of Jedi Fallen Order or Survivor. I bought this capture card about six months ago because I wasn’t happy with my OBS recordings, but now that I’m considering skipping the extra gear, I’m all in. Thanks!

I’m excited to try this out and thank you for your time, no matter the result. The Jedi Survivor clips look great. The Kannagi Usagi segment was recorded with OBS earlier, and it’s not bad at all. I aim for something that goes beyond just good or future-ready, and if OBS can handle it while onboard even better.

I completed a 65-page essay without any clear purpose. I’m really grateful for the feedback. The test is now uploading on YouTube, so I feel confident using OBS to capture natively. I’d like to mention a few concerns: I sometimes record from PS5 and Series X and encountered similar stuttering issues. I’m wondering if the problem lies with the expensive paperweight itself or if my usage was incorrect. Additionally, there’s an issue with HDR not working when mirroring or duplicating displays—this seems unresolved.
