So, I want to change airflow in my case, because my FX8350 overheated lately and shut down.
My case is old one reused from server.
That's how airflow goes in my computer when case is closed
http://imgur.com/A1Wp5Ta
But it overheats everything then so I keep case open.
I don't have any DVDs nor panels to close that opening and also I lost all panels to close openings on the rear for any PCI cards.
I also bought watercooling system for my cpu (should arrive anyday now), but I saw it's construction and I already know I'll go retarded when I'll try to find place to put the radiator and fan which are suppose to cool down the liquid.
Because those might matter too...
CPU - FX-8350
GPU - GTX970
MoBo - Asus M5A99X EVO 2
PSU - TS XFX 750W
WaterCooler - CoolerMaster Seidon 120V V2

the radiator should be installed wherever a 120mm fan fits, which makes the back of the case a convenient and practical choice.

I'm fairly certain that most GPUs have their fans directing air onto its PCB, with air moving from the bottom of the case toward the CPU area.
What specific case are you using at this moment?
What exactly are you trying to ask?

You're correct about the GPU behavior. It tends to suck in air instead of pushing it away. I lack details on its operation or serial number, so I couldn't find any guidance. I made a photo for reference - http://imgur.com/ROXsIbH. Regarding improving airflow, you mentioned water cooling and that your setup isn't very close to the wall. The window behind it doesn't seal well, allowing some cold air to enter.

your overall strategy works well since the air has a clear direction
but, if you decide to add a seidon, where will you install the radiator?

I don't know. Because that's going to be my first watercooling system. I thought either to put it under the psu (in pic there's barely visible fan, not working atm... Damn camera exposure ;P) or make a holding structure to place on edge of case (there where psu cables goes on top of the case). It would stick away from the case, probably having fan headed up. I don't know how long the cords are, 'cuz like I said I don't have this system physically in possession.

For cases that could be a good idea, this one was new about 20 years ago.

Thank you. I'll attempt later to check temperatures with closed and open cases, record the results, and then choose your answer.
As for a case that could be useful, this situation was new about 20 years ago.
Your PC specs are solid, but it's inside something protective—like a stealth machine no one will take from you!
A fresh case would really help; otherwise you might need to modify it yourself, cut a hole for the radiator, or use IO ports to access the outside and leave it open.

My situation doesn't allow this 120mm fan; only an 80mm fits properly there. For now, I positioned the radiator against the edge of the case (with screws obviously).
Not ideal, as it draws in cold air and forces hot air out from the top of the motherboard, but... June ends with an E, just like the case I'm planning to buy then. 😛
Once more thank you Thineswar.
Well, Spencer_10. This case has been functioning well for the past 21 years until more power was added and global warming began. ;D
Update - The upcoming case will be AeroCool Strike-X Advance Black Edition. It features a strong airflow design by default according to my research.
