Valve isn't under financial pressure to launch HL3. They benefit from steady Steam revenue, allowing them the flexibility to refine HL3 until they're satisfied. Other developers lack the resources or incentives to follow this approach. They aren't bound by publishers or shareholders demanding frequent releases for profit, as they operate independently. Currently focused on HL3, they seem to prioritize broader industry challenges over rushing HL3 for a holiday release. We'll need to address this; there are many other games worth exploring.
I haven't played any HL games untill last month when I made myself finish all of them. And its good but not fun enough for me to replay it, HOWEVER the storyline is very interesting and we got no closure with episode 2, and thats whats causing all the hype. I for one would be pleased if they made ep3 with the same engine and graphics from HL2 and just finish the storyline and tell us more about G-man.
