Processor with just two cores running AMD Athlon X4 845 Quad Core chip
I've been using my computer for a while now, and only recently did I realize it was limited to just two cores of a quad-core processor. When I checked my task manager, it displayed only two cores, which made me start looking deeper. It turned out my CPU has hyperthreading activated, which explains why it shows two logical cores. I decided to adjust the settings in msconfig and manually set it to four cores. After restarting the PC, the issue disappeared. I also explored BIOS settings on my Asus motherboard, but couldn't find a direct way to change core counts. Instead, I used the CPU Leveling system with three options: one core per processing unit, one core per processor, and one core per core. After experimenting, I realized this approach wouldn’t fix my problem. In the info tab, I saw details like "AMD Athlon X4 845 Quad Core Processor--Dual Core Running." I checked the resource monitor, which listed all cores, but task manager and graphics driver didn’t show anything missing. I’m still puzzled about what’s causing the issue and would really appreciate your guidance since I can’t find a clear solution online.
It's typical for all AMD X4 CPUs. That's why AMD faced lawsuits demanding payments, possibly around $50 per FX CPU in the past.
I believed it was an issue of that type, but I became mixed up with the dual-core setup, so I think there’s nothing to be concerned about and my processor is working well. Appreciate the quick reply!
