this has never occurred on this new machine. i've had this system running for over two to three months. yesterday my computer was functioning perfectly, but recently it started showing issues before even the first restart. once restored, it worked fine again. however, recently i began using the pc more frequently and noticed it quickly reached near 100% usage. after formatting it to Windows 8, some old windows files remained. cpu activity fluctuated—sometimes staying at 99%, other times dropping significantly when idle. when i opened chrome or searched, the cpu would spike to 99%. this made the system nearly unusable. after a restart, things seemed normal. additionally, the superfetch service was causing the disk usage to hover around 99% to 96%, though it occasionally dropped back to 20%. disabling superfetch reduced usage to near zero. windows 8 64-bit amd phenom 9600 x4 black edition with 4gb ram, ddr2 gt 710, 2gb vram, gigabyte disk, samsung hd502hi scsi 465 gb.
I discovered the issue—hibernation was affecting my CPU performance. I powered down the system and now, when I manually shut it off, it restarts quickly and runs smoothly again.
