Hello, I’m facing a significant problem with my new laptop that’s only been around six months. It’s already caused some issues, but now gaming is completely unusable. Fortunately, Google remains functional for school and basic browsing. During those periods the processor speed fluctuates slightly as expected, but when gaming it drops unpredictably, making games unplayable due to erratic frame rates.

My machine: Asus TUF A15 4060, Ryzen 7 7735HS, 16GB RAM (see video). The clock speed plummets every couple or four seconds under heavy use. I’ve updated the drivers, tried older versions, reinstalled AMD Adrenaline multiple times, and even restarted the laptop several times. Still, it keeps happening.

With my knowledge of computers, I’m certain the problem lies with the CPU itself—not anything else. I’ve checked fan settings, GPU mode, power mode, and even plugged it in or on battery, but nothing helps. The CPU fans still operate normally even when temperatures reach 60–70°C.

While browsing the web, the speed stays around 4 GHz, but during gaming it swings wildly from about 4 GHz down to 1.7 GHz or even lower, and then back up again. It seems random.

Thank you for reading this far. I appreciate any help you can offer. (P.S., sorry about my English—it’s my second language.)

Welcome to the forums! Your English is good—I think this is happening while it's connected? Have you checked the power settings?

This occurs regardless of whether the laptop is connected to power or not, and the Windows power settings are set to best performance. A screenshot is attached. I'm using a 60-watt USB-C charger instead of the 200-watt one that came with the laptop, which wasn't a problem before (I study at my desk and have the 200W charger for gaming).

I noticed a discussion about using throttlestop to diagnose issues, though it seems your system doesn’t support the latest release of throttlestop.

Sure, I understand. I’ve got a two-year production warranty, but it seems this issue doesn’t occur when connected to a 200W charger. I’ll reach out to support later. Appreciate your assistance!
