It functions only on server boards with an LGA 2011 socket from that time period. Check the CPU compatibility list—likely to work on most x79 boards as well.

If it's x79, there are numerous beautifully designed Chinese x79 boards available, offering various appealing features such as M.2 slots. Keep in mind, these boards might or might not perform well.

However, if you are so inclined, there is a great YT channel devoted to testing these x79 boards, and the pros and cons of each. It's a Russian fellow living in Spain that posts in both English and Russian. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8h2Sf-...eEUr-OHgyg His channel is called Miyconst I'm running dual x79 (although to be exact, there is no such technical thing as "dual x79" but neither here nor there) in the form of twin Ivy Bridge Xeons, so if you do go this route, I can probably be of some help.
