Processes of Selling old network switch
Hello everyone. The company you work for recently upgraded their local network and provided you with the old network switches. Are there any steps I should take before selling them to ensure sensitive information isn’t accidentally shared? Thank you in advance.
Determine if the device is a managed or unmanaged switch. If unmanaged, you can simply sell it. If managed, connect it to your computer and log in to check if you can reset it prior to selling.
You need to turn off the security for those switches or record the details and hand them over to the next person. Also, reset it—since you can change the UN and password in the manual, you might skip the first step. If it’s not managed, just confirm it functions properly.
Most managed switches include a method to reset them back to original settings, usually found in the device manual. Assuming it doesn’t have advanced ports, it’s likely worth the shipping price.
Higher-end used switches with PoE offer good value in the second-hand market, even without active management.
