Hello, I'm working on Windows 10 64-bit with an ASUS G750JS setup running an i7-4700HQ at about 3.3GHz and 16GB RAM. The "ntoskrnl.exe" process keeps consuming around 15-20% of the CPU even after reinstalling Windows. I've tried various solutions—checked drivers, installed all available updates, disabled Superfetch and other services, ran a full antivirus scan—but nothing resolved the issue. Could you have any suggestions?

the services aren't part of the process. I haven't experienced any issues with that, so I can't really assist much. Apologies.

Have you checked that link yet? It discusses performance issues on Windows 10, specifically around high CPU usage and the NTOSKRNLEXE component.

Did you keep the computer running for some time after installing Windows to let it complete its setup?

One thing he missed is drivers. Drivers goes under 'System'. So, if their is a driver bug or poorly coded, it can spike 'System'

I reviewed the article and the recommendations suggest reinstalling drivers, performing a clean boot, and executing scan and repair commands. All drivers appear current. The clean boot and restore/scan options didn’t resolve the issue. It took more than a few hours to complete. The only alternative I can try is searching for newer drivers from the exact manufacturer, though I’m uncertain if that will help.

He suggested beginning with a fresh installation and gradually reinstating drivers and services one by one until the issues resurface. This approach may require some effort, but it helps identify the exact driver or service causing the problem.

I turned off all settings in the "System configuration" (msconfig) but my CPU remains at 14-15% even when I don’t run anything myself.

I have started testing random things and after removing one of my hard drives now everything is back to normal. I guess I will have to find out what is wrong with that drive. EDIT: I looks like there is some problem with my caddy that I used in place of my DVD as swaping the HDD did not change a thing. I guess I will have to check what is wrong with the caddy ( or the SATA port for it ... ).
