On W10 Pro the kill command for Cortana was set in group policy and turned off. The bar now lacks Contana, leaving only basic system search options. I don’t need to talk—just want to see movie times or weather without her interference. After disabling, she lingers quietly, still using bandwidth. There are many ways to remove her, but each has its own approach. Please let me know how to safely eliminate her completely. Thank you. (Screen shows after she was removed from group policy.) A magnifying glass appears in the bar; she remains present, like a persistent skin mark.)

It's straightforward to fully terminate Cortana's process. Just right-click it and open the file folder—it should take you there. Once you're in the correct location, rename the folder (often by adding a letter at the end) within the two seconds after ending the process in Task Manager and restarting Windows. If you manage to rename it during that window, the process will stop permanently. Even if Windows can't find Cortana afterward, the essential files remain, so updates and other services won't be able to recover it.

Sure thing! It might be challenging, but at least we still have this method working. 😊
Cheers!

The process was challenging... Yet the search bar remains visible, but tapping it doesn't trigger any results, like it's inactive. Adding a new character to rename it caused Cortona to stop working. It may be necessary to revert the change.

This will not only eliminate Cortana but also let you remove a lot more unnecessary files.

Just an update for anyone that may see this down the road or Googles it. The step I took of killing the process is fine. Then after that and renaming as above (put 33 on the end of the file), I lost all search function (glass was there but dead click no search) So to fix, removed '33', rebooted and the search is back. AND there is NO cortona (movies, weather BS). Just a clean search. Cheers.
