There seems to be something wrong with my front io. When trying to transfer data from my external m.2 ssd, it suddenly stops working and is no longer detected in file explorer and there is no longer a prompt to safe disconnect from my computer. However, when I check device manager it is still there. When I switched to a usb a cable, it wouldn't show at all. I then plugged the usb c cable into the motherboard directly, it seems to work perfectly fine and I was able to move all of my files into my internal ssd instead. I decided to reformat the external ssd just in case there was something wrong with the drive and copied over a heavier file back into the external ssd and it still went with no issue. However, when I tried doing the same thing on the front usb c port, the original issue persisted. I'm not sure what's going on because I have been able to offload footage and pictures from my sd card using a usd a adapter and I had no issues. IDK if this helps but for context, I'm using a V-NAND SSD 980 Pro, an ROG external ssd enclosure, Fractal Design Meshify 2 mid tower case, and an AMD MAG X570 tomahawk WIFI motherboard. Have you connected your SSD to the rear USB-C slot? If the rear port also shows the same problem, the issue likely isn't with the front panel.
SawaTakashi mentioned securing the USB-C connector tightly on your motherboard. Update your UEFI settings, as the latest version is probably missing. If the problem persists, it’s likely due to a faulty header, electrical interference from nearby components, or a damaged cable—possibly overheating. This explanation fits because you’re using a fast connection for NVMe drives; an SD card is much slower. Minor signal issues tend to appear under heavy data transfer, such as moving large files in an enclosure. The speed of an SD card can reach up to around 312 MB/s, while a Samsung 980 Pro can achieve about 3262 MB/s when copying from external to internal drives.
There seems to be an issue. Could you check if there’s anything missing or try a different approach?
