Hi Team, I’m reaching out for some advice. I recently purchased an ATI Radeon RX7600 and installed it on my system with the following configuration: CPU – Intel® Core™ i7-6700, RAM – 32GB (four Corsair CMW16GX4M2A 2666 C16 modules), Monitor – Samsung LC27FG70FQEXXY (now at 60Hz), and a 512GB SSD for the OS plus a 1TB NVMe SSD for games. Recently, even though I didn’t adjust any settings, my PC performed well in Overwatch 2 with high graphics at 144 FPS on a 144Hz monitor, achieving around 25-30 FPS in battle. However, when I increased the game to its maximum CPU usage (100%), the system became sluggish and choked, while the GPU remained at about 30-40%. The monitor was set to 60 FPS max with LOW graphics enabled. I suspect the issue might be related to the CPU age, but it seems to work fine one day and not the other. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yeah the one day difference is a bit weird, I would kinda blame it on CPU. Maybe it's time to replace the CPU. It might be on it's way out.

You have an i7 9600 nearby and are planning to swap the motherboard. This will be your next action. I’ll also note that you’re using a clean Win10 installation with only the ATI driver for the graphics card, and you didn’t install the bundled ATI software.

RX7600 presents a challenge for the older i7 6700 mainly because of PCIe 4 support, which isn't present on that platform. The graphics card may still see some improvement with ReBAR enabled, though availability on such an old board is questionable. I wouldn't find the i7 9600 upgrade particularly appealing. It's unclear if you can repurpose your existing RAM modules—likely you'll need to replace the motherboard. Modern CPUs like Ryzen 5 or i5 13th gen offer significantly better performance without the same power consumption. If you still want to upgrade memory and hardware, a more targeted refresh might be better than just swapping in an older processor.

Can't pay for it yet, so I've secured a mobile unit right away to back the 9600 and my other gear for now.

A possible budget for upgrading your CPU can vary, but it often depends on the specific components you choose. As for your location, I don't know which country you're in.

6th generation DDR4 motherboards? That's quite a topic!

I already have a 9600 CPU from a friend, assuming it would fit. I’m considering using it now. I’ve located a motherboard for $150, though there are some restrictions. My budget is around $200. Since prices are high in New Zealand, everything seems expensive here.

Hey there! Sorry about your spot, many traders end up paying too much because there aren't enough competitors.
