I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon 6750xt to a 4070 Super but encountered several problems. With the first card, I experienced poor artifacts, a very laggy or choppy screen that seemed to struggle with even basic tasks like opening windows (only about 10 fps). When launching a game like COD, I only managed around 10 fps and it frequently crashed with a direct X error. It works fine in safe mode but isn’t ideal for testing. I’ve tried several fixes: swapped in an older 1660 Super (which ran smoothly), installed new drivers multiple times (including after removing the AMD card), disabled the resizable bar, updated drivers, flashed the latest mobile BIOS, upgraded my system’s riser cable from PCIe 3 to 4, and even considered a fresh Windows install. I’m hoping for a simple Windows reinstall but would prefer not to do that. My system specs include a Ryzen 3900x B550, 32GB DDR4 RAM at 3200 MHz (XMP enabled), a 750W Lian Li PSU, and a new generation 4 riser cable. I’ve been troubleshooting for two days and feel completely stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the problem lies with the driver. Reinstalling Windows seems like the ideal solution since it gives you a clean start.

I've cleaned the drivers with DDU and even reverted to an older version. Still facing problems with the standard Windows drivers. I'm now building a separate driver for testing after a fresh Windows installation. Would that be a solid approach?

Thanks for the update. The drive format was GPT, which I'm currently testing. I had some midday tasks to attend to. I'll let you know once it functions properly in the test setup. I'm using an extra 1TB SSD inside a USB C port for moving big files occasionally.

You're facing the same problem again. It might be related to the transition from AMD to NVIDIA graphics, or possibly the card itself. Clearing the drive and doing a fresh install hasn't resolved it yet. Consider trying a different GPU model like the 7900X for a comparison.

Send back the card and choose a 3080 Ti, 3090, or 7900 XT model.

The 7900xt might not work. Could the power supply be the problem?
