I own an ASUS B450-F ROG ATX motherboard with a Ryzen 2700X. The problem is I can't view my HDD on SATA_3. The manual and BIOS say running M.2_1 in GEN3 mode will disable SATA_5/6, but not SATA_3 or SATA_4/5/6. I reached out to ASUS support, who replied "Your chipset can't handle this." They then redirected me to a manual page that confirms the restrictions and doesn't mention SATA_3/4. It seems they might be correct, and my chipset may not support it. When I asked if using M.2_1 in SATA mode would help, they said no. At that point I felt frustrated and stopped asking questions. Could anyone help clarify this situation?
It's a bit tricky with me - I have around 7 or 8 ports (SATA3, M.2) but only a few work together. Using an M.2 slot seems to block three SATA3 ports automatically. Most boards let you choose different setups, but few support all ports at once. It might relate to the PCIe lanes. I guess my motherboard isn't in good shape, but it's not working properly either. Right now I'm using 3 disks with 2x8GB RAM and one GPU in a 16-lane slot. PS: with me, even the M.2 slot won't work if the GPU needs 16 lanes. That's pretty wild!
My suggestion is to test every available slot and observe the results. It's all about experimentation. Fixing issues can be frustrating, but it's necessary. Ideally, you should only attempt this once. If you suspect your device is defective, bring it in under warranty and try again with a replacement. It's tough (I've felt that way before).

I encountered issues even without using any M.2 slots, and the system behaved in a manner similar to what the OP mentioned; only two of my four HDDs were recognized, specifically through the SATA1 and SATA2 ports. I recently purchased a Ryzen 3600x but still use the same motherboard. I opted to update the BIOS as suggested, which resolved the issue on my end at least. My current BIOS version is 2901.

With two disks, I tried adding a third but the motherboard couldn't handle more than two simultaneously—changing their positions or using different ports and cables didn’t help consistently. Updating the BIOS resolved it. A version that was several months out had a fix; the 2901 update worked too.
