Problems with MacBook Air's Wi-Fi connection.
She has a MacBook Air from around 2012 that shows as connected to WiFi but isn’t actually accessing the internet. It functions normally on the same router your friend uses. Possible reasons could include a weak signal, incorrect network settings, or a hardware issue. Check the Wi-Fi connection strength and ensure the device is properly paired with the router.
I don't believe so since restarting it would only function for a short time before stopping again.
Seems like you're unfamiliar with Mac OS, but I'll treat it similarly to other operating systems and use drivers. Attempting to remove and reinstall the Wi-Fi adapter drivers.
Yeah, it could be easier. One of the issues with MacOS is there aren't drivers or adapters available. They're supposed to "just work," which Steve mentioned. Most of the time it does, and that's why the OS is good, especially for those less familiar with computers. I believe I resolved it by removing the "WiFi service" in the network settings and then re-adding it. It now remembers her connection and connects automatically, which is much smoother. Since it's an older model, she'll need an upgrade soon, but her dad is trying to delay that as long as possible.
It's worth looking into. There are some things I do love about them. I just switched back to iPhone after switching to Android (mainly Pixel and Samsung phones) over the past 4 years. So having the seamless integration between my MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar 2018 model, Apple Watch Series 4, iPad Pro 10.5 inch 2017, and iPhone XR has been so great! Much better the having a Lenovo Thinkpad, random Fossil and Huawei smartwatches, Samsung Tab S2 9.7 inch and whatever android phone I had at the time. I used to be all Apple before 2015 and switched platforms and now I'm back and overall, love it! I still have my customer gaming PC (parts listed below) and as a "computer" it is way better than having an iMac or something. Especially since I use it to game too. I do have windows 10 on my MacBook Pro too via "Boot Camp" and it's actually awesome, so I get the best of both worlds. The keyboard has actually grown on me too, even though I made fun of it since they switched to the butterfly switches. I do use Google Homes too and have Google Assistance installed on my iPad and iPhone so at least that's available too. And having an Apple TV and AirPods doesn't hurt too. Just my opinion though.
That's why I'm considering a change. Windows 10 hasn't been very smooth for me. I often run into driver problems, and updates seem to have a high risk of causing issues. I've been playing PC games since 2004, owning a big Steam collection, but now I'm leaning toward stability instead of constant worry about broken updates. Apple appears to be handling their software better, especially with the iPhone XR.
