Problems with M.2 enclosures
Seeking guidance on installing these SSDs. I assembled the enclosure and two M.2 drives but couldn’t see them on my Mac or Windows 10 laptop. Should I prepare anything before connecting them as external storage? The enclosure is an ORICO NVME M.2 to Type-C USB3.1 Gen2 10Gbps adapter, and there are two SSDs mentioned—one Samsung 980 Pro 2TB and another Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB.
Did you verify the drives in Drive Management? Ensure they’re initialized, formatted, and assigned a drive letter. They arrive unformatted.
Following @tkitch’s advice, I’ll reinsert the drives a few times. I have that M.2 enclosure, and I’m aware it’s quite sensitive to how much pressure the drive is under. If I drop it on the table, there’s a 1/4 chance I’ll have to remove and reinsert it for Windows or my Macbook to recognize it properly.
Followed Tkitch's instructions closely, especially giving a drive letter. Didn't rely on automatic IP assignment like DHCP. Also tried exFAT, which might have been part of the process. Returned to unallocated state, assigned a letter, used NTFS format. It worked smoothly.
