Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing okay despite the challenges we're facing lately. I recently switched my i3-9100F to an i7-8700 and upgraded my CPU cooler from the original one to a CM Hyper H410R. This caused some worries. My Asus Tuf B360M Plus gaming I7-8700 GTX 1070 with 16GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 at 2666MHz, and an Antec VP700 700W PSU with 80+ white power, are all set. Essentially, my CPU is throttling under load, but the voltages seem inconsistent. When I enable XMP and boost RAM speeds to 2666MHz, the voltage drops from the default BIOS setting to just 1.3 volts on the CPU core. Running benchmarks shows it spikes into the 80s in seconds. This worries me because someone else on YouTube used the same cooler setup and achieved a max power draw of around 78W while theirs was only about 120W, yet they maintained a stable boost clock of 4.3GHz with minimal temperature rise—averaging around 62°C without throttling.

If I turn off XMP, my CPU stays at 65W but drops to 3.7GHz, and the clocks fall to 3.7GHz. I'm hoping for someone with real experience to guide me on getting a B360 motherboard that can handle around 70W TDP, maintain roughly 1.3V, and keep the boost at 4.3GHz while drawing only about 75W. My current setup has two intake and three exhaust fans, providing good airflow, and the room temperature is between 25-27°C. Any advice would be really appreciated. I'm a bit concerned about those high temperatures.

Are the conditions matching those of the creators on your videos? If not, it’s normal to see variations in outcomes.

Get it exactly right, the next idea is to verify your thermal paste job and see if your motherboard has any BIOS updates that could boost efficiency.

He mentions a Z390 motherboard in the video, but it raises questions about the power usage difference. With a 100+W app compared to his 70W, and the motherboard drawing only up to 1.15A versus his 1.325V output, it seems significant. I plan to update the BIOS tomorrow.
