I just purchased a new 144Hz monitor that works well in most games. However, in TF2 it limits my frame rate to 60Hz. Before making the change, I let TF2 run at an unlimited frame rate to reduce input lag, aiming for around 100Hz. I've tried various fixes: disabling G-Sync, using console commands (FPS_max 144), checking the NVIDIA control panel, and turning off full-screen optimizations. I'm eager to make the most of my new display and welcome any tech advice! My setup includes: Viotech gft27db (display port), GTX 1660 Xeon, 16GB DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz, and I’m not sure about the rest—I got it from a junkyard.

Ensure Gsync remains active and turn off the vertical sync option in the preferences.

These games behave oddly with refresh rates. You may need to try the launch command "-refresh 144" or "-freq 144" to see if it helps. Probably not what you expect.

It seems "-freq" is effective for TF2. If it doesn’t, you might adjust the refresh rate in the game’s settings files. Let me know if you need more details. Edited November 12, 2020 by handymanshandle Clarifying what command does the trick.

Opened the secret lab of SCP to test with friends and noticed it runs at 60fps. It seems the frame rate was limited in settings yesterday. Not sure what’s happening. Restarted my PC on November 12, 2020 by Chua—maybe the limit is only shown in menus now.

It functioned once I tried another game and returned to TF2. I’m completely confused about what happened.
