Problems with DisplayPort detection?
I discovered a solution for those still using an older Nvidia graphics card like myself. I own a GTX 980 and for a long time my display port would stop responding after a power cycle. The easiest way was to switch to HDMI and trust that the signal would return after a few restarts. I kept my HDMI connected as a backup along with my display port cable. I wasn’t sure if the problem lay with the monitor, the cable, or the card itself. Since the monitor worked fine and would auto-reconnect, it pointed to the cable or card. I didn’t want to replace the cable right away, knowing it still detected the display port occasionally. I began researching various display port cables without much effort, as I always managed to restore the display port after 10 to 20 minutes. Eventually, I tried the update for my GTX 980 VBIOs firmware. It required an installation. After turning off the PC, unplugging both cables, rebooting, and waiting about 30 seconds before plugging in the DisplayPort cable, it worked. I’m hoping this fixes similar issues. If you’re using a Nvidia card and still seeing blank screens after booting, give it a shot. I made an account just to share this, thanks to the countless forum discussions I went through while searching for a solution.
I completely resolved the issue by unplugging the monitor. I changed the card to a different machine, reinstalled drivers, reached out to multiple support forums, and filed an RMA for my graphics card. Luckily, removing the monitor fixed the problem. Fortunately, I hadn’t shipped the card yet for the return. I plan to cancel it once I replace the newer graphics card in my rig.
