Hello. I purchased a used Ryzen 4500 to swap in for my 1500X. I updated the BIOS on my Gigabyte AB350M motherboard, installed the EC FW Update Tool (version B19.0517.1), and proceeded through the BIOS update sequence using F21, then F31, and finally F51d. After completing the updates, I replaced the CPU and was able to boot into BIOS successfully, but it fails to load into Windows. It attempts briefly before displaying a black screen. I’m unable to enter safe mode either. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, try this Put the old CPU back > boot into Windows > update the chipset drivers. Re-flash the Ex firmware In the BIOS, reset to defaults, disable EXPO/DOCP and turn off fTPM and secure boot. Swap in the Ryzen 4500 and try, if still blackscreens then run a clean Windows installation.

Hi, try this Put the old CPU back > boot into Windows > update the chipset drivers. Re-flash the Ex firmware In the BIOS, reset to defaults, disable EXPO/DOCP and turn off fTPM and secure boot. Swap in the Ryzen 4500 and try, if still blackscreens then run a clean Windows installation.

I attempted to boot Linux from a USB and it behaved just like Windows. The only difference was the ability to interact with the install window. It even allowed me to run a memtest86 test, which passed. I followed Gigabyte's instructions for updating the EC FW. Is this equivalent to the chipset drivers?

An EC FW update modifies the firmware on the motherboard, while AMD chipset drivers adjust Windows’ low-level components like power management and I/O. Simply switching from a 1st-gen 1500X to a newer Ryzen 4500 can cause Windows to rely on outdated driver stacks, which may block booting. To confirm this, try reinstalling the 1500X, boot into Windows, and install the latest AMD chipset drivers. If that doesn’t work, consider a fresh Windows installation.
