Hello everyone, I just bought some used RAM sticks (Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz DDR3, 2x8GB). They match the original specs but are now 2x4GB. The same speed and timing settings are in place, just a bigger capacity. XMP is enabled. Installing them alone or with my 8GB RAM causes crashes—sometimes hard, sometimes soft—but always within two minutes after logging into Windows. Putting them back in restores normal operation. It’s puzzling since they’re essentially the same modules but larger. I suspect something might be wrong, but I wanted to see if anyone else has faced similar problems before before considering a refund. As mentioned, the 2x4GB sticks have worked perfectly for years on my older A10-7860K APU system. The specs are Asus-A88XM-PLUS with an overclocked 4.2GHz Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz DDR3, paired with a Corsair H45 PSU. I’m open to sharing OC settings if needed. Thanks all!

Perhaps it works, but as I mentioned, the system fails with the 2x8gb modules when installed separately, meaning using just two of the four slots. I've attempted to run all four modules and also the two I got. It crashes each time until I replace my original stick.

Verify the XMP voltage is being applied correctly. Check if you're proceeding without overclocking the CPU. If both conditions are met, test each stick individually—start with the original ones showing issues. Run Memtest86 on each at stock settings. If they pass, the issue might be related to the installed amount. To confirm memory quality, test them in stock mode. If they succeed, proceed; if not, investigate further.
