Problems with BIOS settings
Hello! I recently assembled a new PC featuring a Gigabyte B650 Eagle motherboard and a Ryzen 9 9950X CPU. The motherboard required a BIOS update to function properly. Initially, I received incompatible RAM, but after several attempts using Q-Flash, it worked. Now, the challenge is that the CPU light activates, preventing me from performing a Q-Flash. Pressing the power button brings everything back to life—lights, fans, and the motherboard displays the CPU status, indicating it’s not completely off. However, when I try Q-Flash, the system remains silent. I suspect the USB drive used for flashing isn’t reading properly, possibly due to its outdated status light. I’m worried about damaging my BIOS settings. Have others faced similar problems?
I've already attempted to reset the CMOS using a screwdriver and removing the battery.
Is your motherboard compatible with reflashing without RAM installed? You might need to endure the process for RAM training or similar steps. AM5 RAM requires some kind of training, which can take a while—leave it running for 5 to 10 minutes to observe the changes, as components are activated and fans adjust. This training may be connected to the issue you're experiencing.
It might fail during the RAM training process. It doesn’t appear to take a long time, but you could try flashing without the memory installed. Check if a memory profile was set before swapping the RAM. Installing new RAM without using the default speeds or settings can cause the PC to freeze when powered on. Clearing the BIOS should resolve the issue. Refer to your motherboard datasheet for details on reflashing—some boards don’t require CPU, GPU, or RAM, and you can connect a USB stick by pressing the designated button on the motherboard. Always research the specific model you’re using.
I removed the CPU and everything appears normal—both the CPU and its connector look fine after inspection. I’ve included pictures of the CPU connector and the ATX power connector. The red indicator light still stays on during boot attempts.
If previous efforts didn’t succeed: The article suggests possible alternatives you might overlook. First, confirm the USB port is correct—mistakes here are common. Ensure the flash stick remains functional; a dead stick could cause failure. Verify the partition table and format settings (MBR for table, FAT32 for format). If uncertain, reset the stick with these parameters and reinsert the Q-Flash file. Check if your monitor’s auto-insertion is enabled or manually set the correct input in its OSD. Experiment by removing RAM and CPU to test stability, then try again. Keep trying until you find what works.
Did you heed @highduke's suggestion to reposition the CPU? Given that only the CPU indicator remains lit, this could be the issue. If you haven't done so already, please reposition it and attempt the subsequent steps before moving forward. I'll adjust the instructions accordingly.
